Units of measurement
A unit of measurement is a definite magnitude of a physical quantity, defined and adopted by convention or by law, that is used as a standard for measurement of the same physical quantity. Any other value of the physical quantity can be expressed as a simple multiple of the unit of measurement.

Maßeinheit
Geometrische und physikalische Größen werden in Maßeinheiten (auch Größeneinheit oder physikalische Einheit) angegeben, die einen eindeutigen (in der Praxis feststehenden, wohldefinierten) Wert haben. Alle anderen Werte der jeweiligen Größe werden als Vielfache der Einheit angegeben. Bekannte Maßeinheiten sind beispielsweise Meter, Sekunde, Kilowattstunde, Hertz oder Kilometer pro Stunde.

Natuurkundige eenheid
Een natuurkundige eenheid of kortweg eenheid is een maat waarin natuurkundige grootheden numeriek kunnen worden uitgedrukt. Het aantal eenheden heet de numerieke waarde; deze is zelf een dimensieloos getal. De waarde van de grootheid kan worden beschouwd als het product van de numerieke waarde en de eenheid. De dimensie van de grootheid is dezelfde als die van de eenheid.

يکا
يـکا يا واحد اندازهگيري کوچک‌ترين پيمانه و معيار اندازهگيري و شمارش است. يکي از جنبه هاي مشترک بين همه اندازهگيريها وجود يک يکاي اندازهگيري است. دانشمندان براي آنکه رقمهاي حاصل از اندازهگيريهاي مختلف يک کميت با هم مقايسهپذير باشند، در نشستهاي بينالمللي توافق کردهاند که براي هر کميت، يکاي معيني تعريف کنند. دانشمندان با انجام بررسيهايي به نتيجه گرفتهاند که يکاي هر کميت بايد به گونهاي باشد که در شرايط فيزيکي تعيينشده تغيير نکنند و در دسترس باشد. اين يکاها بايد دستيافتني و تغييرناپذير باشند که البته ممکن است تأمين هر دوي اين ويژگيها با هم کار سادهاي نباشد، مثلا اگر قرار است استاندارد کيلوگرم يک جسم تغييرناپذير باشد، بايد اين جسم دور ار دسترس باشد يعني در جايي نگهداري شود که از هرگونه تغيير و تحول و دستکاري کردن در امان باشد. توافقهاي مربوط به استاندارها ، حاصل يک رشته مذاکرات بينالمللي در"کنفرانس بينالمللي عمومي اوزان و مقياسها" بوده است اين مجموعه يکاهاي مورد توافق بينالمللي را به اختصار دستگاه بينالمللي يکاها مينامند.
