vetch

Vicia is a genus of about 140 species of flowering plants commonly known as vetches. It is in the legume family (Fabaceae). Member species are native to Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Africa. Some other genera of their subfamily Faboideae also have names containing "vetch", for example the vetchlings (Lathyrus) or the milk-vetches (Astragalus). The broad bean (Vicia faba) is sometimes separated in a monotypic genus Faba; although not often used today, it is of historical importance in plant taxonomy as the namesake of the order Fabales, the Fabaceae and the Faboideae. The tribe Vicieae in which the vetches are placed is named after the genus' current name. Among the closest living relatives of vetches are the lentils (Lens) and the true peas (Pisum).

Die Wicken (Vicia) sind eine Pflanzengattung in der Unterfamilie Schmetterlingsblütler (Faboideae) innerhalb der Familie der Hülsenfrüchtler (Fabaceae). Die etwa 160 Arten kommen hauptsächlich in den nördlichen gemäßigten Gebieten vor.

Wikke (Vicia) is een plantengeslacht uit de onderfamilie Papilionoideae van de vlinderbloemenfamilie (Leguminosae). Het geslacht komt met ongeveer 140 soorten voor in gematigde streken van het noordelijk halfrond en in Zuid-Amerika.

Vicia est un genre de plantes herbacées de la famille des Fabaceae (ou Légumineuses), dont certaines sont cultivées comme plantes fourragères ou comme légumes (les fèves par exemple). C'est le genre des vesces, de la fève et la féverolle.

Wyka (Vicia L.) – rodzaj roślin zielnych należący do rodziny bobowatych. Obejmuje co najmniej 232 gatunki (tyle uznanych zostało za zaakceptowane w bazie taksonomicznej The Plant List, w niektórych źródłach, zwłaszcza dawniejszych, podawana jest znacznie mniejsza ogólna liczba gatunków, np. 140, 160, 200). W większości występują one na półkuli północnej, w strefie klimatu umiarkowanego. Zasiedlają zazwyczaj suche, trawiaste łąki i murawy, zarośla, wydmy piaszczyste i żwirowe. Wiele gatunków to rośliny uprawne, w tym jadalne i pastewne, nieliczne uprawiane są jako rośliny ozdobne. Do gatunków o największym znaczeniu należy bób (wyka bób) uprawiany już w neolicie na Bliskim Wschodzie.
