Waiter! is a 1983 French film directed by Claude Sautet and starring Yves Montand, Nicole Garcia, Jacques Villeret, Marie Dubois, Dominique Laffin, and Bernard Fresson. It received 4 César nominations, for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor (twice) and Best Sound.

Waiting staff, wait staff, waitstaff or serving staff are those who work at a restaurant or a bar, and sometimes in private homes, attending customers—supplying them with food and drink as requested. An individual waiting tables is commonly called a server, waitperson, waitress (females only), waiter (referring to males or either gender), or less commonly the 1980s American neologism waitron. Archaic terms such as serving girl, serving wench, or serving lad are generally used only within their historical context. A server or waiting staff takes on a very important role in a restaurant which is to always be attentive and accommodating to the guests. Each waiter follows rules and guidelines that are developed by the manager. The main rule is to always stay busy. Wait staff can abide by this rule by completing many different tasks throughout his or her shift. Such as food-running, polishing dishes and silverware, helping bus tables, and restock working stations with needed supplies.

Kellner ist die allgemeinsprachliche Berufsbezeichnung für einen Angestellten eines Bewirtungsbetriebs (Restaurant, Bistro etc.). Die weibliche Form lautet Kellnerin bzw. Serviererin. In der Schweiz verwendet man auch die Bezeichnungen Saaltochter oder Serviertochter.

Een kelner, ober of bedieningsmedewerk(st)er (een vrouwelijke kelner noemt men serveerster of kelnerin) is iemand die drank en/of voedsel serveert in een horecagelegenheid. Daarnaast verzorgt hij/zij de mise-en-place en voert afsluitende werkzaamheden uit als opruimen en schoonmaken.

Un serveur est un employé conventionnel dans les cafés, les restaurants ou tout autre établissement de restauration. Son nom indique qu'il est au service des clients ; il a en conséquence plusieurs rôles, complémentaires à ceux du maître d'hôtel :

• enregistrer les commandes des clients,
• leur apporter celles-ci,
• reprendre les contenants des consommations (la vaisselle sale) pour les amener au lavage (appelé aussi plonge),
• enregistrer le paiement de la note,
• nettoyer la table et la préparer pour les prochains arrivants : changer la nappe, essentiellement.
