Z, z is a letter in the Polish, Kashubian and  Maltese alphabets.

Ź (minuscule: ) is a letter of the Latin alphabet, formed from Z with the addition of an acute accent. It is used in the Polish and Montenegrin alphabets, and in certain other languages:

• Slavic languages - usually the palatalized form of /z/

• Polish language - (voiced alveolo-palatal fricative)
• Montenegrin language - along with the digraph "zj"
• In the Belarusian Łacinka for зь /zʲ/
• Lower Sorbian language 

• In the Romanization of Pashto, it is used to represent voiced alveolar affricate .
• In Emiliano-Romagnolo alphabet, it is used to represent voiced dental fricative [ð]. Depending on the various dialects, the pronunciation can be [ðz], or, under Italian influence, [dz], but the most common pronunciation is [ð].

compress (/usr/bin/compress) ist ein Packprogramm unter UNIXen und UNIX-ähnlichen Betriebssystemen. Seine Funktion wie auch sein Verhalten ist im POSIX-Standard (und damit auch in der Single UNIX Specification und der Norm IEEE 1003.1) festgelegt. Es bildet mit seinem Gegenstück uncompress (/usr/bin/uncompress) die übliche Methode, Archive platzsparend abzulegen.

Die Z. Zeitschrift Marxistische Erneuerung (kurz Z. genannt) ist eine theoretisch-politische Vierteljahres-Zeitschrift, die 1990 aus der vormaligen „Erneuerer-Strömung“ der DKP und dem zuvor zur DKP gehörigen Institut für Marxistische Studien und Forschungen (IMSF) in Frankfurt am Main hervorging. Initiator war der Ökonom und bisherige IMSF-Direktor Heinz Jung († 1996). Sie erscheint im Format A5 mit rund 200 Seiten. Die Themenschwerpunkte der einzelnen Hefte beziehen sich auf aktuelle Diskussionen der antikapitalistischen Linken.

Der Zirkel ist ein monogrammartiges Erkennungszeichen einer Studentenverbindung. Er ist eine Verschlingung von meist in einem Zuge geschriebenen Buchstaben, in der Regel den Anfangsbuchstaben des Verbindungsnamens und eines Leitspruchs. Dieser Leitspruch ist nicht immer mit dem Wahlspruch der Verbindung gleichzusetzen. Früher waren an manchen Hochschulen auch Zirkel üblich, die aus den Anfangsbuchstaben des Hochschulnamens gebildet waren, so zum Beispiel F und A für Friderico-Alexandrina, G und A für Georgia-Augusta oder R und C für Ruperto-Carola.

De letter Z is de 26e en laatste letter in het moderne Latijnse alfabet. In het vroege Latijn ontwikkelde de /z/-klank zich tot een /r/-klank, waardoor de Z overbodig werd. De Romeinse politicus Appius Claudius Caecus, voormalig censor van de Republiek, verbande de letter omstreeks het jaar 300 v.Chr. uit het alfabet. In de 1e eeuw v.Chr. werd de Z geherintroduceerd, naar het model van de Griekse letter Zèta (Ζ, ζ), maar de nieuwe letter werd wel helemaal achteraan in het alfabet geplaatst. De nieuwe letter was nodig om de vele nieuwe vreemde woorden uit het pas onderworpen Griekenland te kunnen opschrijven. De Y is de enige andere letter waarvoor de Romeinen niet ook schatplichtig zijn aan de Etrusken. De Semitische letter Zajin en de Oud-Griekse Zèta werden vermoedelijk uitgesproken als /dz/. De Etruskische Z, die zij hadden geleerd van Griekse kolonisten, klonk mogelijk meer als /ts/.

En mathématiques, un entier relatif est un nombre qui se présente comme un entier naturel auquel on a adjoint un signe positif ou négatif indiquant sa position par rapport à zéro sur un axe orienté. Les entiers positifs (supérieurs à zéro) s'identifient aux entiers naturels : 0, 1, 2, 3… tandis que les entiers négatifs sont leurs opposés : 0, -1, -2, -3… L'entier zéro lui-même est donc le seul nombre à la fois positif et négatif.
