Roman heritage in Serbia
The territory of what is today the Republic of Serbia was under Roman (and later Byzantine) rule for about 600 years, from the 1st century BC until the Slavic invasions of the 6th century. It was administratively divided into Moesia (later Moesia Superior, corresponding to Serbia properPannonia (later Pannonia Inferior) and Dardania (corresponding to eastern and western Serbia proper, respectively)).
